BRANCH CONNECTION REQUIREMENTS

Branch Outlets

A socket-weld branch outlet provides a branch connection from the wall of a larger pipe. The header interface and branch socket are separate parts of its geometry.

01 / PRODUCT OVERVIEW

A branch from the main pipe.

The outlet body joins to the main pipe, often called the header or run, and provides a socket-weld connection for the branch pipe.

Unlike a tee placed between sections of the main run, a branch outlet is attached at a branch opening in the header. The header contour, branch size and required outlet design all matter to the connection.

Technical background references

General background for the explanation above. The project specification governs the actual selection.

02 / CONSTRUCTION

Read the two sides of the outlet.

Header-side interface

The outlet attaches at an opening in the main pipe. The header contour is part of the interface.

Branch-side socket

The socket receives the branch pipe. Its size is distinct from the main-pipe size.

03 / PRODUCT KNOWLEDGE

Understand the header-side attachment.

Branch outlet versus tee

A branch outlet attaches to the wall of the main pipe. A tee is a fitting body inserted between sections of the run, with a third connection for the branch. The main-pipe interface distinguishes these arrangements.

Understand the tee arrangement
Which connection is socket-welded on a socket-weld branch outlet?

The branch pipe enters the outlet’s socket. The header-side attachment is a separate interface at the main-pipe opening.

Why does the header size matter?

The outlet’s attachment interface follows the main pipe’s contour. The branch size alone does not describe that interface.

04 / SELECTION CONSIDERATIONS

What matters in the application.

Header details

Provide the header size and pipe details needed to define the attachment interface.

Branch details

Identify the branch size and socket-weld requirement.

Design reference

Specify the required outlet design and applicable project requirements. Do not substitute an unspecified attachment configuration.

05 / UNDERSTAND THE SPECIFICATION

What to include.

Branch Outlets: specification checklist

  • Header size and branch size
  • Relevant pipe details and required outlet configuration
  • Material designation and governing specification
  • Installation drawing and project-specific requirements
